Replacing internal laptop hard drives are a bit tricky. With one wrong step you might damage your laptop hard drive or you may get electrocuted if you don’t take safety measures seriously. It is only natural that you want to replace your old internal laptop hard drive with a new one having a larger capacity when it can’t provide the data space that you need.

You will need a small screwdriver, a new internal hard drive and an upgrading kit that you can get from any computer specialty shop. There are two types of internal laptop hard drives available on the market, the PATA and the SATA laptop hard drive. As a suggestion, the latter is the newest and easiest to use of the two as they don’t require jumper configuration as the former does. They also have thinner cables that allow the air inside your laptop to circulate freely, making them a more effective choice.

CLONING INTERNAL LAPTOP HARD DRIVES

To start, you have to clone your old drive data into the new one and as you don’t want to wait for a very long time, delete all the unwanted data and programs that you don’t use. You may also want to defragment your old internal laptop hard drives data to shorten the waiting time. Upgrade kits come with a cloning software in a CD. Turn off your computer and boot directly from this CD after you have attached the new internal hard drive to the laptop through a USB cable.

REPLACING INTERNAL LAPTOP HARD DRIVES

Then remove your battery. This will remove the chances of you getting electrocuted in the procedure, and also most hard drives are located in front of the battery. If not, then you have to locate your hard drive by removing small screws on the laptop using the screwdriver. Be careful not to damage any inner parts of the laptop. Take your old internal laptop hard drives out and transfer the hard drive cradle on the new one and place it inside the laptop. Reinsert the laptop battery and boot your system and see if it works. You can even use the old internal laptop hard drives as a refurbished external hard drive if not a backup drive. By the way, this is the same procedure for replacing media or gaming hard drives as well such as the XBox Slim Hard Drive.

The right hard drive for desktops, laptops or media device can make a world of difference to the performance and how you manage digital storage space. Make sure you find out everything you need to know before you buy or else it can be frustrating and expensive. Don't jump into it before visiting XBox Slim Hard Drive.
